Mission of the Study

The Faculty of Agriculture and Biology has the aim to offer the students a holistic and interdisciplinary knowledge in the area of organic agriculture and food production presented by the best specialists from different faculties of Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW and from abroad.

The Aim of the Study

The BSc studies OAFP are constructed according to the expectations of potential employers within organic food production. The focus is on the innovative teaching methods activating students and preparing them for future employment. The studies will offer good possibilities to develop the necessary skills and knowledge in desired specialties. The alumni of OAFP can find jobs in organic food production, processing, trade and also in different companies connected with education, dissemination and advisory services.

A detailed programme of studies

The program is divided into six semesters. It consists of both lectures and practicals /workshops.

The detailed list of subjects is as follows:

First year: Environment protection, Introduction to organic agriculture and husbandry, Chemistry, Basics of botany, Agrometeorology, Global food production, Informatics, Foreign language, Sustainable food production systems, Sustainable development of rural areas, Agroecology, Soil science, Microbiology of soils and plants, Animal physiology and organic nutrition, Basics of plant biochemistry and physiology, Study trip to organic farms, Food legislation or Agriculture law, Basics of human nutrition.
Second Year: Cropping systems, Plant breeding and seed materials, Control and certification system of organic production, Plant protection management in organic agriculture, Plant nutrition in organic system, Agricultural technologies for organic farming, Food Microbiology, Organic raw materials, Study trip to organic farms, Organic grassland farming, Organic crops, Weeds and weed management in organic farming, Methodology of scientific research, Livestock production in organic farming, Organic vegetable and fruit production, Hazards for food safety.
Third year: Diploma seminar, Mathematical statistic, Organization of organic farms or Markets and marketing of organic food, Conversion of the farm into organic system, Processing of organic plant raw materials, Food safety and hygiene, Ecological aspects of food and nutrition, Processing of organic animal raw materials, International agricultural markets, Herbs in organic farming, Entrepreneurship in organic business.

Requirements

Qualification based on:

the results of the maturity examination in biology or chemistry or mathematics;
confirmed knowledge of English (certificate of English language at least level B2 or maturity exam in English language at an Advanced level with result at least 60%, or a document confirming completion of the high school with program in English as language of instruction).

Recognition of foreign diplomas and certificates

DOCUMENTS RECOGNISED BY OPERATION OF LAW IN POLAND (AUTOMATIC RECOGNITION)

Certificates recognised by operation of law are not subject to the procedure of recognition by the Education Superintendent. The owners of such documents have right to submitt it directly to the University. Applies to:

Certificates, diplomas or other educational documents that confirm the completion of secondary education in the European Union, European Economic Area (EEA) or OECD member states as well as the right to apply for higher education programs in the country of issue shall be recognized in Poland by law (i.e. automatically).

This rule concerns the following countries:

RECOGNITION PROCEDURE BY POLISH EDUCATION SUPERINTENDENT

Secondary school leaving certificate which are not recognized in Poland by operation of law or under an international agreement undergo obligatory the recognition procedure. Recognition procedure is done by the Polish Education Superintendent in a way of administrative decision.

Recognition of a certificate or the level of education is done by the Education Superintendent appropriate for the place of residence of the Applicant, and if there is no such place, for the official seat of the institution where the Applicant is going to submit the certificate.

Legalization/Apostille

In cases of high school leaving certificates recognized under the administrative decision of the Polish Education Superintendent, legalization is required.

Legalization is carried out by:

1) Polish consul in the country where certificate was issued or in the country in which educational system a school operates;

2) educational authorities in the country where a certificate was issued or in the country in which educational system a school operates;

3) an embassy or consulate of the country where certificate was issued or in the country in which educational system a school operates located in Poland or in other EU, EFTA or OECD country;

If a certificate was issued by a country – party to the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961 abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents, an certificate must be submited along with the Apostille attached to it. Check if the country in which the certificate was issued is a party to the Hague Convention:

Translation of documents

Education documents issued in a language other than Polish are submitted together with their translations into Polish. Translations should be made or certified by:

1) a person entered by the Polish Minister of Justice on the list of sworn translators – the list of sworn translators is available on the website of the Ministry of Justice, or

2) a person registered as a sworn translator in a Member State of the European Union, a Member State of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) – party to the agreement on the European Economic Area or a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), or

3) the consul of the Republic of Poland, competent for the country on whose territory or in which education system the certificate was issued, or

4) an embassy or consulate of the country which issued the certificate or in which educational system the school operates located on the territory of Poland, or

5) a person registered as a sworn translator in the Republic of Belarus or Ukraine – applies to education documents issued in the education system of these countries.

Translation into Polish does not apply to the following documents issued in English: EB diploma, IB diploma, higher education diplomas.

Certificates from other countries or with other grade scale

If the above list does not include the country in which the certificate was issued or there is another scale of grades on the certificate, the recruitment committee will convert the results into SGGW points individually.
Candidates present the certificate of the recruitment commission to convert the obtained results from the certificate to WULS-SGGW points and introduce them to the candidate’s account in the recruitment system.

The certificate together with a sworn translation into Polish should be submitted before the registration is closed (within the deadlines specified in the Recruitment schedule) at the Student Affairs Office, ul. Nowoursynowska 166, room 8 or a scan should be attached to Candidate’s profile in the Candidate Service System in the tab “Attach documents”.

DOCUMENTS CERTIFYING KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH
The Candidates are obliged to provide one of the following documents certifying their knowledge of English at B2 level or higher according to the global scale of the „Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR)”.
A documents fulfilling the criteria are, among others:
1. International Baccalaureate Diploma.
2. European Baccalaureate Diploma.
3. Certificates confirming knowledge of the foreign language at B2 level:
Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) – ALTE Level 3 (B2) and higher:
- First Certificate in English (FCE);

5. Certificate includeing information concerning the right to continue education at the next level in the country in which educational system a school operates, including the right to apply to higher education institution and the scope of rights appertaining. The aforementioned documents should be issued or certified by the school or educational institution which issued the certificate or they should be certified by educational authorities of the country which issued the certificate or in which system of education the school operates (does not apply to certificates recognized by operation of law or under an international agreement).

7. Copy of a valid passport (page with photo) or other document confirming the identity of the candidate (the original document is to be presented).
8. Medical statement translated into Polish, certifying that there are no contraindications to undertake studies at the chosen field of study. After admission, the accepted canditate is directed by the Faculty authorities for additional medical examinations to the occupational medicine doctor at the Polish medical facility.
9. 1 up-to-date photographs in accordance with requirements for the Polish ID (format 35 mm (width)/45 mm (height)) and the same digital photograph (resolution 236 x 295 pixels) attached to the application in Candidate Service System.

for foreigners: 4 500,00 PLN per semester
for Polish nationals: free of charge
