The UNIgreen DAY – The Green European University
On 17 February 2022, eight UNIgreen partner universities took an important step towards establishing the European University UNIgreen, an alliance of European universities in the areas of Agro, Bio and Life Sciences (#WeAreUNIgreen).
In order to create a transnational alliance of European universities that share the same long-term vision for cooperation, eight institutions, namely: University of Almería (Spain) – coordinator, Agricultural University of Iceland (Iceland), Agricultural University Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Haute Ecole de la Province de Liège (Belgium), Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (Portugal), Paris Sup’Biotech (France), Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy) prepared a project application within the initiative of European Universities entitled The Green European University (UNIgreen).
17 February – the UNIgreen Day
Representatives of the universities involved in the UNIgreen alliance met in Brussels on 17 February 2022 to sign a declaration of accession to the initiative. The Rectors’ meeting was organized by the International Relations Office of the Belgian partner university – Haute Ecole de la Province de Liège (HEPL), which manages the project at HEPL. 17 February became a symbolic beginning of the UNIgreen – The Green European University – to commemorate the date, the universities associated with the alliance set this day as the UNIgreen Day.
What is UNIgreen?
The UNIgreen project aims to strengthen the links between education, research, innovation, good practice and knowledge transfer to make the union a model European university in terms of higher education and Agro, Bio and Life Science research areas.
The project aims to enable the free flow of knowledge, facilitating the acquisition of double or joint European academic degrees and attracting talented students from outside Europe by promoting multilingual approaches in studying, interculturalism and increased inclusiveness.
UNIgreen A.D. 2023
On 31 January 2023 over 200 people met in the SGGW Crystal Hall to discuss the mission, goals and values of the The Green European University – UNIgreenAlliance. More about the event.
Unigreen Alliance is a synergy of educational and research activities at 8 European universities – a huge number of ideas help to meet the requirements of the agri-food sector and bioeconomy. On 10 February 2023, dr hab. Marta Mendel, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation attended a meeting at the Bulgarian partner, the Agricultural University Plovdiv (Аграрен университет – Пловдив).
