The National Centre for Science (NCN) has announced the results of the OPUS 25 and PRELUDIUM 22 competitions
Seven researchers from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences will be awarded funding under the OPUS 25 and PRELUDIUM 22 competitions
The OPUS and PRELUDIUM competitions enable the implementation of basic research in Polish units. OPUS grants are used to carry out complex projects lasting several years, build large scientific teams, use large international research facilities and cooperate with foreign partners. PRELUDIUM is a competition that allows researchers at a very early stage of their career, even before their doctorate, to gain first experience in carrying out research projects lasting up to 3 years.
Results of OPUS 25:
- dr hab. Magdalena Stobiecka, Institute of Biology: “Development of dual immuno-oligo biosensors for monitoring and controlling of the metastatic colorectal cancer and investigation of small molecule inhibitors of antiapoptotic biomarker survivin for potential cancer therapy”; the amount: PLN 1,781,041
Results of PRELUDIUM 22:
- mgr Marcin Kamil Tymiński, Institute of Biology: “Disturbances of the phytoglobin-nitrate reductase interaction in apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) embryonic axis isolated from seeds subjected to aging”, the amount of PLN 139,812.
- mgr inż. Michał Tadeusz Pruchniewski, Institute of Biology: “Molecular and physiological mechanism of activity of biodegradable cell scaffolds based on an electrospun polymer matrix enriched with carbon metal nanocomposites as a biomimetic system supporting the regeneration of skin tissue”, the amount of PLN 209,840.
- mgr inż. Małgorzata Maria Kubiak, Institute of Biology: “The study of the effect of hypoxia on the metabolism of exogenous ferritin and its role in the regulation of free iron in macrophages and cancer cells”, the amount of PLN 70,000.
- mgr inż. Iwona Monika Szopa, Institute of Veterinary Medicine: ”Determining the role of Th17 lymphocyte-secreted cytokines in the development of canine melanoma – in vitro studies”, the amount of PLN 209,840.
- Abu Zar Ghafoor, Institute of Agriculture: “Modeling the effect of climate change and soil organic carbon on baking quality traits of winter wheat cultivars in temperate climate”, the amount of PLN 139,727.
- mgr Łukasz Kopiasz, Institute of Human Nutrition Sciences: “Evaluation of the effects of beta-glucan from oats on intestinal barrier integrity in chemically induced colitis”, the amount of PLN 139,727.
A little over 338 million zlotys in funding will go to 407 projects selected under OPUS 25 and PRELUDIUM 22. This is the lowest number of winning projects in these calls since the NCN was founded. Because our budget has been frozen, success rates in this iteration of OPUS and PRELUDIUM fell to just 8.06% and 10.73%, respectively.
