The Mediterranean diet is considered to be an exemplary way of eating. Scientists and researchers from SGGW confirm the fact, but under some important conditions.
The international team of scientists, with the participation of dr hab. Dominika Średnicka -Tober, prof. SGGW and dr Marcin Barański,
proved that the switch from a habitual Western diet to a Mediterranean one, rich in fruit and vegetables, and considered to be one of the most beneficial to health, is associated with higher exposure to unhealthy pesticides.
To reduce this negative effect it is recommended to compose the Mediterranean diet based on raw materials and organic products.
The same study showed that the consumption of organic food significantly reduces exposure to all groups of synthetic pesticides.
These results may explain the positive effect of organic food on people’s health, often mentioned by many scientists.
So:Mediterranean diet? only if it’s organic!
