Józef Mikułowski-Pomorski was born on 1 July 1868 in Malice, Sandomierz. He was the son of Władysław and Julia née Horoch. This year we celebrate the 155th anniversary of his birthday.
He served as rector of SGGW from 1918 to 1920 and from 1928 to 1929. He was the first rector of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the former Agronomic Institute at Marymont. In 1888 he graduated from the Riga Technical University.
In 1893, he was appointed as an assistant at the Galician National Agrarian University (now Lviv National Agrarian University), where he organized a chemical and agricultural research and experimental station, which soon became an example for other Polish universities. He dealt with issues related to the use of synthetic fertilizers and soil fertility. Prof. Józef Mikułowski-Pomorski cooperated with the Society for the Promotion of Polish Agrarian Science, the aim of which was to organize an agricultural magazine. In 1900, prof. Mikułowski-Pomorski was appointed professor for his achievements, and in 1906 he took the position of the director of the institute located in Dublany.
In 1911, Józef Mikułowski-Pomorski moved to Warsaw and began organizing first industrial and agricultural courses, and then an agricultural university in Warsaw. He rented a place at ul. Miodowa, and then established an experimental field in Wilanów.
The courses he once taught were transformed into the Agrarian University, and then nationalized, which allowed the establishment of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, and Prof. Józef Mikułowski-Pomorski was elected for the position of the first SGGW rector in 1918. Then, in 1928, he again became the rector of SGGW.
