SGGW scientists elected to the Committee on Environmental Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences – PAN
Dr hab. Grzegorz Majewski, Prof. SGGW, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, dr hab. Agnieszka Karczmarczyk, Prof. SGGW, and prof. dr hab. Kazimierz Banasik, Professor Emeritus were appointed to the Committee of Environmental Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences for a 4-year term of office. Professor Kazimierz Banasik was also elected Vice-Chairman of this Committee.

The committee’s scope of work includes technical discipline, based on the use of engineering methods for preserving, shaping, and protecting the environment, developed based on technical, natural, legal, and economic sciences. It forms a basis for both rational management of natural resources and forecasting, assessment, prevention, and repair of effects of human activities. Environmental engineering is shaping appropriate technical conditions and methods for the maintenance of the natural environment in ecological balance, and restoring such balance in the case of the devastation caused by natural disasters, improper exploitation of minerals, economic activities, etc. By this environmental engineering is the sustainable development principle, which is the basic one, since its realization depends on the living conditions of present and future generations.
