SGGW scientists awarded medals at the iENA 2022
Dr hab. Adam Ekielski, prof. SGGW, Department of Production Engineering, Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Marzena Suchocka, Department of Landscape Architecture, Institute of Environmental Engineering were awarded medals at the iENA Nürnberg 2022 International Trade Fair for developing innovative solutions.
The medals were awarded during the official inauguration of ScienceWeek 2023, in the SGGW Main Library, by prof. dr hab. Michał Zasada, SGGW Rector , and Mr. Andrzej Szmalc, Head of the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer, and President of InnoTech4Life, SPE, SGGW.

The Department of Production Engineering, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the gold medal. The team has developed a counter with UV detection in a form of biodegradable labels made of waste lignin. It is supported by a smartphone application that enables it to read the absorbed radiation dose in a simple and accessible way.
Whereas Dr. Suchocka, Department of Landscape Architecture, the Institute of Environmental Engineering received a silver medal for developing an innovative, self-fertilizing stone and soil mixture that enables the growth of trees and shrubs in the concreted areas of European cities.
iENA Nürnberg is a space for inventors, innovative companies, and licensees from all over the world, to present hundreds of inventions and ideas. The scope of the fair covers high-tech and low-tech topics, including environmental protection, mechanical engineering, IT, electronics and medical technology, agriculture, and households.
During iENA, participants could take part in lectures and discussion panels, e.g. iENA Innovation Seminar and iENA START Symposium. The event was also a source of valuable suggestions, and tips regarding the establishment, financing and development of start-ups and spin-offs.
SGGW was represented by Mr. Andrzej Szmalc, Head of the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer, and president of InnoTech4Life, SPE, SGGW, and Ms. Judyta Sobczyk, proxy and Head of Operations, Innotech4life.
