SGGW partner for Polish Earth Day at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai
In less than a month, on 13 April, the World Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai will open, and on 22 April, during the Polish Earth Day, of which we are a partner, we will present our achievements in sustainability and innovation.
On 13 March 2025, a press conference was held to announce the inauguration of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, during which the key principles of Poland’s participation in the World Exhibition were presented.
The World Expo 2025 is not only an opportunity to promote Poland internationally, but also a space to build relationships and exchange experiences at the highest level. In a world that is changing at a rapid pace, we want to show that Poland is a country that combines tradition with modernity, and that our innovative approach to technology, sustainable development and international cooperation opens up new prospects for business and science. I am convinced that our presence in Osaka will contribute to the establishment of long-term partnerships and strengthen Poland’s position as an important player on the global economic and cultural scene. – noted Jacek Tomczak, Commissioner General of the Polish Section Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
The programme for promoting Poland at Expo 2025 in Osaka Kansai includes more than 100 events – from conferences and debates to workshops and research projects, carried out in cooperation with 100 partner institutions. SGGW is also part of this programme.
Expo 2025 in Osaka is a unique opportunity to present the scientific achievements of SGGW in the context of global challenges. Our participation in the Polish Earth Day is to promote innovative research in sustainability and biotechnology and, most importantly, to build international partnerships that can contribute to better use of science in protecting the environment and improving the quality of life. Polish Earth Day programme with participation of SGGW
Polish Earth Day is the inauguration of the Week of Promotion of Polish Science (22-26 April), organised by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). As part of the event, SGGW scientists will conduct two workshops for visitors to the Exhibition: Plants as a Source of Natural Antiviral Substances and Products and the Role of Photosynthesis in Regulating Their Growth Environments – participants in this workshop will learn about methods of communicating with plants by observing photosynthetic processes and the use of mosses and fabaceous plants in the development of antiviral substances.
Urban Composting: A Model for Sustainable Waste Management – a workshop on effective urban food waste management and local composting methods as part of a circular economy.
Scientific conference – key discussion panels
As part of Polish Earth Day, an international scientific conference will also be held, during which representatives of SGGW and Japanese universities and research institutions will participate in two panel discussions:
‘Innovative technologies in health care’ – a debate on modern technologies in health care. Prof Mohamed Hazem Kalaji from the Institute of Biology at SGGW, will discuss the use of mosses and lectins in producing natural antiviral agents and cooperation with Japan to commercialise research results.
‘Challenge for food loss and waste reduction with DX and AI application’ – a panel chaired by Prof Magdalena Vaverkova from the Institute of Civil Engineering at SGGW, on food waste and the potential for using digital technologies and AI in food resource management.
The conference will conclude with a networking session, providing an opportunity to network and discuss future cooperation projects between Polish and Japanese scientific institutions.
