SGGW joined the Declaration of University Social Responsibility
Signing the Declaration of University Social Responsibility, the universities commit to implement the pro-environmental and pro-social activities in various areas of institution operation. On behalf of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the declaration was signed by prof. dr hab. Tomasz Okruszko, Vice-Rector for Science.
The document is a voluntary commitment of universities to promote the idea of sustainable development and social responsibility in the educational and research activities, as well as in the university management. Its aim is to build a broad social awareness of the role of universities in shaping the conditions for sustainable socio-economic development.
The Declaration contains 12 principles relating to various aspects of university functioning, teaching and research activities, internal organization and conducting dialogue with stakeholders.
The declaration emphasizes the role of universities as a place for creating and transferring knowledge, the need to cultivate academic values and shape the social and civic attitudes of future elites, along with social sensitivity and work culture.
The importance of ethical principles was also noticed, as was the need to promote the idea of equality, diversity, tolerance as well as respect and protection of human rights in reference to the entire academic community and its environment. The Declaration also highlights the partnership between science and business, which is the basis for the development of innovation.
