Release of the new SGGW visual identity
We would like to warmly welcome you on the new website of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). The launch of the website is part of the release of a new visual identity which responds to the ever-changing world and to the needs of modern communication with the University partners – employees, scientists, students and the business community. Today, SGGW is not just an agricultural university any longer. It is a modern university of life sciences with a very wide range of activities. We hope that the new website will provide all interested parties with easier access to information on the scientific and educational activities of SGGW and will make it easier for them to contact the University.
The layout of the website is based on a new, unique visual language of the University, formed by elementary particles inspired by life and nature. Their circle-based shapes refer to nature on a micro-scale – drop of water, particle, cell. “SGGW elementary particles” are also present in the refreshed SGGW logo and the original font designed especially for the University. Life and nature are also the starting point for the palette of colours. It is based on three shades of green, blue, yellow, violet and red – colours inspired by the colours of nature.
It should be stressed that the new visual identity system does not modify the official name of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the banner of the University, its stamp and model of diplomas, nor does it modify the insignia of the authorities of the University and its faculties. On the other hand, it is a new visual language, tailored to the needs of the communities with which the University communicates on a daily basis, as well as to the channels in which visual communication of the University is conducted, in particular, electronic media.
The modern design of the new SGGW website goes hand in hand with a transparent system of searching for information on the life of the University and, above all, with the improvement in its functionality. The content has been organised in the form in clear tabs: studies, education, cooperation and services, university, practical information, thus enabling simple navigation. The zones identified according to the user’s key: for candidates, students, employees and alumni, collect information addressed to a specific target group.
In addition to the News category, which contains information on the current events at the University, the website also contains a dedicated area presenting scientific projects under implementation. In the Recruitment column, candidates will find the most important information on the recruitment process to start studying at SGGW.
We believe that the new visual identity will be appreciated by the SGGW community and our partners, and the refreshed website will make it easier for users to access information related to the scientific and educational activities and educational offer of our Alma Mater.
New system of the SGGW visual identity
The new system of the visual identity of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences is the result of many consultations conducted for almost a year with the participation of various academic communities of the University. i.
It takes into account the opinions and feelings of a large group of employees and students who took part in the so-called mining workshop. During the design work, meetings were held with the rector’s authorities, deans and representatives of the student council. A survey on the perception of SGGW was also conducted, whose results helped determine the way the image of the University should be presented. Based on these opinions, the team of designers and the participants in the workshop defined, inter alia, preferences regarding colours, graphic forms applied and the level of entrenchment of tradition in the SGGW community. The concept of the new visual identity, which has been finally selected after consultations and modifications, refers to life in a biological aspect. Having plant and animal cells, proteins and other organic compounds as the point of reference, the visual identity presented in this concept is made of basic elements – “SGGW elementary particles”. Their circle-based shapes refer to nature on a micro-scale – drop of water, particle, cell. “SGGW elementary particles” are a building material of which a diverse world of illustrations, compositions and typographies is made; they are also present in the SGGW logo and in the font designed especially for the University. The tradition and nature of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences are focused around life sciences. That is why life has inspired the new visual identity and the refreshed traditional emblem has become the basic SGGW logo. It should be stressed that the new visual identity system does not modify the official name of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the banner of the University, its stamp and model of diplomas, nor does it modify the insignia of the authorities of the University and its faculties. On the other hand, it is a new visual language, tailored to the needs of the communities with which the University communicates on a daily basis, as well as to the means with which visual communication of the University is conducted, in particular, electronic media. The use of the former logo in a small or medium size, for example, in printing of posters, on social media boards, in materials promoting the University and its scientific achievements on web portals, videos, animated videos and advertising gadgets created a lot of technical problems as it was unclear. The visual message must be clear, consistent and professional, allowing for easy identification with the sender of the message – the University. During the design work, a typographic and colour system was developed which will ensure the proper appearance of communications about the University as well as any promotional and information materials. The new system of visual identity has been built for two main lines of communication, by differentiating the type of message addressed to candidates for studies and students (image and recruitment line) and to the world of science, economy and politics (science and business line). The new visual language is based on the so-called “SGGW elementary particles” (referring to nature, drop of water, particle, cell), which are specified in the SGGW Visual Identity Book and which were also used to build the new symbol of the University. The modification related to the implementation of the new visual identity, as well as the preparatory and design work itself, is a process spread over time. Owing to this, we will be able to become familiar with it together, to understand its objectives and implement in all units of our Alma Mater. On this occasion, it is worth recalling that the currently used emblem of the University has not always looked as it does today. In its more than two hundred years old tradition, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences has used various emblems.
