Prof. dr hab. Wanda Olech representing the Institute of Animal Sciences was honored with the Medal of Professor Tadeusz Vetulani for achievements in conservation breeding programs for native breeds of farm animals and protection of endangered animal species by the Poznań University of Life Sciences.
The award justification states that Professor Olech is “an outstanding zootechnician, a specialist in the assessment and maintenance of genetic variability within small populations of animals and the author of the European and national strategy for the European bison (Bison bonasus) protection, resulting in the creation of new, free populations of the species”.
The Congratulations Letter prepared by the Kielanowski Institute of Animal Physiology and Nutrition representatives included the following quote: “granting such a high distinction is a gesture of special recognition to thank for the long-term and exceptional activities for biodiversity and animal protection”.
It was also emphasized that “the great publication output related to scientific activity, didactic achievements and the performance of organizational functions, including in the European Bison Friends Society or the National Council for Nature Conservation consider the Professor as a recognized authority in the national and international scientific community.”
