Professor Stanisław Karpiński appointed to the Council of the National Science Centre
Professor Stanisław Karpiński, Institute of Biology SGGW appointed to the Council of the National Science Centre. Twelve new members of the Council were appointed by the Minister of Education and Science.
The term of the Council for the new members runs from 15 December 2022 to 14 December 2026.
NCN is a government agency, supervised by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, set up in 2011 to support basic research in Poland. Basic research is defined as empirical or theoretical endeavours undertaken to gain new knowledge of the foundations of phenomena and observable facts, without any direct commercial use. NCN funds projects in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences and Engineering.
The Council of the NCN is a policy body consisting of 24 distinguished researchers selected from candidates appointed by Polish scientific institutions. The Council sets priority areas in basic research, decides on the type of programmes and specifies call regulations. Its range of competencies also include electing members of the expert teams responsible for proposal evaluations as well as appointing the Director and Discipline Coordinators.
