Professor Janusz Żmija was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences
On 21 October 2023, prof. dr. hab. inż. Janusz Żmija was conferred the honorary title of the SGGW doctor honoris causa.
During the ceremony, the holders of the post-doctoral degree of doctor habilitated were also recognized with diplomas, and the procedure for receiving a Ph.D. degree took place.
“Professor Janusz Żmija is going down in the history books of our Alma Mater as an outstanding scientist, recognized tutor, and agricultural economist. We are honored that Professor Żmija has accepted that honorary doctorate conferred by the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, under the Senate Resolution dated 25 September 2023, upon the recommendation of the Discipline Council of Economics and Finance. By doing so, he becomes an esteemed member of our institution’, said prof. dr hab. Michał Zasada, the SGGW Rector.
Professor Janusz Żmija has been honored by the SGGW Senate with the title of an honorary doctorate in recognition of his merits in educating professionals and promoting scientific research in the field of agricultural economics and rural development. His outstanding contribution to the improvement of socio-economic knowledge and collaboration with the university, the Institute of Economics and Finance, as well as the Faculty of Economics, were also acknowledged.
The initiator of the proceedings for the conferral of the honorary doctorate was dr hab. Mariusz Maciejczak, SGGW university professor, and Head of the Institute of Economics and Finance. Dr Maciejczak presented the profile and achievements of Professor Janusz Żmija to the guests.
Then, Professor Janusz Żmija delivered a lecture titled “Economic-Agricultural Sciences in the Krakow Environment”.
During the second part of the event, 12 holders of post-doctoral degrees of doctor habilitated were inducted into the circle of independent academic staff, including 10 representing our University. Moreover, doctoral diplomas were conferred upon 20 proud PhD title holders, including five representing SGGW.
“The modern world needs scientists and experts who will chart the path towards green transformation, ensuring food security and preventing a climate catastrophe. The world needs authorities who will help understand the causes and show the way to deal with the challenges of today”, added the SGGW Rector.
