New Wayfinding System at the SGGW'S campus
Wayfinding system has been introduced at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW, which aims to increase comfort and facilitate the acclimatization of new students and academic staff, including foreigners.
Wayfinding system, prepared in Polish and English language, consists of: 33 pieces of information carriers in the campus area, including 7 maps and 26 directing totems as well as internal door signs in the academic and administrative buildings.
Introduction of the wayfinding system at SGGW was divided into two stages:
- designing a wayfinding system;
- production, delivery and installation of the wayfinding system;
As a part of the design stage, a detailed analysis was carried out. In result a report identifying the existing problems and proposed solutions for the wayfinding system was prepared. The main objective was to design a unified wayfinding system, using various types of information carriers, facilitating the orientation of foreigners at the University (taking into account the natural pedestrian traffic and spatial organization), but also referring to the specificity of the University’s life sciences profile, while maintaining the consistency of the project in the context of the campus division into a historic and a modern part.
Designed wayfinding system met the assumptions of user-friendliness (readability, intuitiveness, visibility, recognizability), as well as was adapted to production and installation.
Introduction of the wayfinding system at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW was carried out in the frame of the TIME2GETREADY Project under the “Welcome to Poland” Program, co-financed by the European Social Fund under the Knowledge Education Development Operational Program, non-competition project entitled: “Increasing the competences of the academic staff and the institution’s potential to receive people from abroad – Welcome to Poland” implemented under the Action specified in the application for project funding no.
