Description of direction
Bachelor’s (3-year) studies in the field of BIOLOGY enable obtaining reliable knowledge
based on a solid basis of the exact sciences: mathematics, chemistry and physics. The main subjects are: botany, zoology, plant physiology, animal physiology, animal and human anatomy, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, ecology, enzymology, and evolution. Numerous optional subjects (to choose from) make it possible to consolidate knowledge, facilitate the development of interests and the choice of one’s own education path. The program of these studies is distinguished by a significant share of laboratory and field classes. Thanks to this, students are able to apply advanced research techniques and competently use the latest research equipment. In addition, students undergo apprenticeships in selected scientific institutions, laboratories in the food and pharmaceutical industry and others, which significantly expand and improve their practical skills, better preparing them to the requirements of the labor market. Students carry out experimental bachelor’s theses in the departments of their choice under the supervision of experienced supervisors. Master’s studies (2 years) in the field of BIOLOGY significantly expand the knowledge and practical skills acquired during undergraduate studies. Students choose one of two specializations:
• experimental biology or
• microbiology
The program of these studies includes, among others subjects such as: bioinformatics, in vitro cultures,
molecular biology and genetics, symbiosis of plants and microorganisms, and others adapted to their own
the scope of the above-mentioned specializations. Students carry out fully experimental work
Master’s studies at various units of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, as well as outside the university. Undergraduate and graduate students also take part in international student exchange, e.g. under the ERASMUS program. Graduates of the master’s studies achieve proficiency in the selected specialization and therefore are sought-after candidates for the Doctoral School at SGGW and
other renowned universities and research institutes. Graduates of the undergraduate studies
and master’s degree in BIOLOGY are aware of the need for self-education. They can independently formulate and solve problems, work in a team and function in society in accordance with ethics and the principles of law.
