Inauguration of the Celebrations in remembrance of Professor Longin Majdecki
The Anniversary Celebrations in remembrance of Professor Longin Majdecki is a series of events commemorating the Professor and promoting awareness about the protection and conservation of historic garden arrangements, organized in the years 2022-2025. The inauguration ceremony will take place at noon, on 14 July, in the Royal Łazienki Park.
The honorary event is attended by the representatives of the following institutions: Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Warsaw University of Technology, University of Warsaw Botanic Garden, National Institute of Cultural Heritage, Polish National Committee of International Council on Monuments and Sites ICOMOS, and the Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw, project’s initiator and coordinator.
The anniversary celebrations will begin at noon on 14 July in Łazienki Królewskie accompanied by the opening of the “The world of Longin Majdecki’s gardens” exhibition in the open-air gallery in Aleje Ujazdowskie. The exhibition is one of the events planned on the occasion of the upcoming 25. anniversary of Professor Majdecki’s death and the 100. anniversary of his birth.
Prof. dr hab. Longin Majdecki (1925-1997) was a honored long-term employee of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, an outstanding landscape architect,
conservator-restorer, and historian of garden art, who rescued many historic buildings, parks, gardens and cemeteries from destruction and oblivion. He was an author of the restructuring and revalorization projects of the important Warsaw parks, i.e., Łazienki Królewskie with a music amphitheater, Centralny Park Kultury, Dolinka Służewiecka, Arkadia Park and Królikarnia, Kazimierzowski Park, Podzamcze Park, Sielecki Park, the Seym Garden, Belvedere Garden, Northern Communal Cemetery, and the tourist development project of the Kampinos National Park, the Linde Las, and the Bielański Las. The achievements of Professor Majdecki include about 350 projects from all over the country. He was also an outstanding theoretician and practitioner, and the author of The history of Gardens.

15 July, 05.30 p.m. – a guided walk in the Royal Łazienki Park, meeting spot at the terrace of the Palace on the Isle – free entry
16 July, 12.00 a.m. – a walk around Dolinka Służewska Park, designed by prof. Longin Majdecki, meeting spot at the bus stop at Aleja Wilanowska next the park – free entry
