For the safety of the SGGW Academic Community, we would like to share the following information with you:

From 19.10.2020 until further notice – classes, with the exception of practical classes, will take place in remote form using distance learning methods and techniques, in accordance with established timetables for the winter semester. This applies to classes of the first and the second level, single master’s courses, doctoral school,  and doctoral studies started before the academic year 2019/2020. This also applies to postgraduate studies and classes conducted within the framework of the Open University of SGGW.

Practical classes, especially those held in clinics and related to the necessary access to laboratory infrastructure, shall be conducted in accordance with detailed timetables established respectively by the deans of faculties, the directors of institutes, the head of the SGGW Doctoral School, the heads of doctoral studies in consultation with the laboratory guardians and in compliance with the principles of epidemic safety.

Foreign language and P.E. classes are held remotely.

A list of field activities, carried out in direct form, will be drawn up and published at a later date.

• Who decides on the form of  classes and organizing work in a given department?

Decisions on the form of classes and organizing work in a given faculty are made by the dean. Due to the deteriorating epidemic situation in Poland, the current way of organizing classes in the winter semester may soon change to include a remote form for most of the activities which were so far carried out in traditional form.

• How does the university support remote learning?

Learning and distance support tools are MS Teams and Moodle platforms. Each student has access to Office 365 and an account in the domain sggw.edu.pl

• Is it possible to visit dean’s office?

Visits to deans should be kept to the necessary minimum, students should be served primarily at a distance – by phone, internet mail, through the MS Teams platform. Specific rules are set by the Dean.

Before your planned visit to the dean, please read the information on the Department’s website. If you make a visit,  make sure to keep a safe distance, avoid waiting and gathering before entering to the dean’s office.

• Can diploma exams be conducted remotely?

The decision on the mode of conducting such exams shall be taken by the Dean at the request of the graduand.

• Does the SGGW Library work during the pandemic?

• I am a student/doctoral student, I suspect I might have a coronavirus infection. What should I do?

Please behave responsibly and take care of your health and that of others. Follow the current GIS guidelines, contact your doctor and follow their instructions, and then provide information about suspected illness as soon as possible according to the following scheme:

Students who participate in traditional classes should inform the relevant dean, the head of doctoral studies, the head of the SGGW Doctoral School, the head of postgraduate studies, the Rector’s Representative for the Open University SGGW by phone or e-mail sent to the appropriate person in the sggw.edu.pl.

Persons informed by the students about their suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection shall immediately inform the Rector or Chancellor of the SGGW.

• Where should I apply for a scholarship?

Applications for social scholarships, scholarships for people with disabilities and financial assistance are submitted to the Dean.
Applications for the Rector’s scholarship:

• if the application concerns only your GPA score (note average) – Dean’s Office,
• if the proposal concerns PA score (note average) and the other achievement(s)  Appeal Scholarship Committee (BSS – Students Affairs Office, buildin8, room 3).

• What will the examination session look like?

This is not yet known, it will depend on the epidemic situation and the decision of the deans after consultation with the coordinators of individual subjects.

• Can the exam take place in person if the course is taught remotely?

Verification of the achievement of learning outcomes – credit– is carried out in the traditional or remote form. A situation in which classes are conducted in remote form and the examination in traditional form or vice versa is not excluded. Decisions on the way of conducting classes and examinations in the traditional or remote form are made by the Dean.

The rules for remote deductions are laid down in Rector’s Order No 39 of 15 June 2020.

• What protection measures does SGGW provide to students in full-time classes?

The rules applicable to participants in traditional teaching classes have been introduced. These principles should be strictly observed by each member of our community for their own good. A student who suspects any infection should not come to class.  In class, students remain in masks that protect their mouths and noses, keep a safe distance, use only their own utensils, do not bring any unnecessary items to class, disinfect their hands before entering the building and classes, and during classes. The rooms are ventilated, the touch surfaces are systematically disinfected.

• How do I react if someone doesn’t follow safety rules?

All members of our community are now feeling an increasing pressure and fear for their health. Sometimes there are individuals that disregard or ignore the rules. In such a situation, it is necessary to remain calm and to take care of one’s safety, while at the same time pointing out to such a person that they do not adhere to the accepted principles of social coexistence, thereby endangering others.

• Can a student refuse to take part in a course taught in person?

If the classes take place in traditional (stationary) form, this is dictated by the need for students to achieve the learning outcomes resulting from the practical classes that are assigned to them. If a student is concerned about their health and has concerns about attending a full-time class, they may consider applying for leave from classes on the terms described in the SGGW Study Regulations. Refusal to participate in traditional classes (which are kept to a minimum) means that learning outcomes will not be achieved and the student will not be included in the classes.

• If I am in a difficult financial situation, can I get help?

Students may apply for financial assistance on the terms and for the reasons described in regulations on financial aid. The decision on granting the allowance will be based on the documents submitted to the Scholarship Commission.

• How do I apply for help?

The application for benefits together with documents confirming the situation of the student must be delivered to the Dean by post or in person, after having first read the information about the current arrangements at the Dean’s office, or by appointment for a specific time.

Dorms

• Will the dormitories work?

Yes, we maintain the functioning of the dormitories using the sanitary regime that we introduced at the beginning of the semester.

• Can outsiders be allowed to enter the dormitories?

It is forbidden for outsiders to enter the student houses of SGGW. Detailed information is available on thehttp://adiss.sggw.pl

• Can I organize social, educational, and integration meetings in dormitories?

Unfortunately not.

• Does the administration of student houses provide masks, gloves?

Residents stock up on their own personal protective equipment. At the entrance to the buildings, there are liquids for disinfecting hands.

• What should I do if I suspect an infection?

Contact your doctor or sanitary and epidemiological station and follow the guidelines provided. You should notify the reception or administration of the dorm by telephone.

If you receive a decision on mandatory quarantine, the resident is obliged to immediately notify the administration of the student house.

Organization of events / conferences

• Is it possible to organize conferences, trainings and other cultural, entertainment and integration events at SGGW?

We limit the possibility of organizing events of this type. The restrictions do not apply to events organized by means of distance communication (online events, etc.).

Employees

• Do I need to cover my mouth and nose in office spaces?

For personal contacts of employees outside the room, keep a distance and cover your mouth and nose.

• Do I need to cover my nose and mouth in SGGW common spaces?

Yes, you should also remember to keep your distance.

• Should documents be sent traditionally or electronically?

Where possible, documents should be sent electronically.

• What should it look like to adapt office space to work?

The distance between the various workstations should be 1.5 meters. In addition, managers of organizational units should organize their work in accordance with public sanitary guidelines.

• Is it possible to work remotely?

At the request of the staff member, after the opinion of the superior (dean, director, manager), the final decision is taken by the Rector.

Psychological support

• The pandemic situation  negatively affected my well-being. Is it possible to get psychological help at SGGW?

Trips

• Are Erasmus+ trips possible?

Erasmus+ call for departures will start in November this year. and will apply to trips to study in the academic year of 2021/2022. • Are other student trips (not covered by the study programme) possible?

At the moment, yes, the Order of the SGGW Rector No 50 of 6 July 2020 remains in force: It is allowed to travel abroad employees, doctoral students, and students of SGGW. Departures are only possible to countries with which border traffic has been restored and can only take place taking into account the sanitary regulations in force in both the destination country and the transit countries.

• What about the trips of employees and doctoral students?

At the moment, yes, the Order of the SGGW Rector No 50 of 6 July 2020 remains in force:

It is allowed to travel abroad employees, doctoral students, and students of SGGW. Departures are only possible to countries with which border traffic has been restored and can only take place taking into account the sanitary regulations in force in both the destination country and the transit countries.

• Is it possible to visit foreign guests?

At the moment, yes, the Order of the SGGW Rector No 50 of 6 July 2020 remains in force:

The possibility of receiving international guests, including students, in accordance with the sanitary regime and in accordance with the provisions of generally applicable law is restored in SGGW.

1. When does first-degree recruitment start?

The deadlines for baccalaureate in 2020 were announced on 24 April 2020. On the same day, the schedules for the baccalaureate and the dates for the announcement of the results were announced on the CKE’s website. The results of the baccalaureate will be communicated by 11 August 2020, according to the Communication. We are currently working on how to recruit. Most likely, the first stage of recruitment for studies the first degree and the single master’s degree will take place in the second half of August, the second in the first half of September. Registration of candidates is likely to start from the first of July.

2. When does second-degree recruitment start?

Recruitment for the second degree will take place in September – one stage.

3. Until when are student ID cards valid?

The validity of the Student ID card is governed by Art. 63 ‘Shield2’ – Law of 16 April 2020 on specific support instruments for the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus (OJ 2020, item 695): In the Act of 20 July 2018. – The law on higher education and science (Journal of Laws of 2020, points 85 and 374) is amended as follows: Article 51a is added to Article 51a. Article 51b states: ‘In the event of a restriction or suspension of the university’s operation, during the period of that restriction or suspension and for 60 days after its completion, the student ID cards and service cards of academic teachers shall be valid, without the need to confirm their validity. The provision shall also apply to ID cards which have expired during the 30 days preceding the limitation or suspension of the operation of the hemisphere.’

4. Am I in a difficult financial situation, should I be helped?

Act of 16 April 2020 on specific support instruments in connection with the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus (OJ 2020, item 695) gave the Rector the power to process applications for benefits. The SGGW’s benefits regulations provide for the possibility of granting benefits for this reason – in § 23: Help may be provided to a student who is temporarily in a difficult life situation. Incidents which justify a student’s application for benefits include, in particular, other circumstances which may cause a temporary difficult situation in the student’s life which includes having a significant impact on the deterioration of their financial situation.

5. How do I apply for help?

The submission of applications for benefits by electronic means carries a risk of processing of the applicant’s personal data and not only the applicant. We recommend that you submit your application by post. Decisions related to the granting or non-granting of material assistance benefits are issued electronically to accounts in the virtual dean of SGGW.

6. Should I pay for a dorm?

Case of exemption for DS fees is regulated by Circular letter No 3 of the SGGW Rector of 3 April 2020 on exempting SGGW students from fees for residence in student houses for the period of non-stay in student houses from the second half of March 2020 to the day of resumption of teaching activities at the university. It is apparent from the document that the fee is not charged to the person who is accommodated but does not live in DS. since he/she left the dorm following the Rector’s order of 11 March 2020 to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus among the SGGW community.

7. Will the university reduce college fees?

Since most classes in SGGW take place remotely and the remaining classes are planned to be completed at the latest during the holiday season – the University does not currently provide for a reduction in the fees for studies. We still hope that some of the classes will take place after the end of the school and university closure period in the months of July-September. Act of 16 April 2020 with specific support instruments for the spread of SARS-CoV-2 virus (OJ 2020 item 695) allows the Rector to change the organization of the academic year 2019/2020.

8. Are on-line exams and credits possible?

Yes, there is a possibility, although it depends on the specifics of the item.

9. Are online defences possible?

It will be possible to organize “remote” defences, especially in the event of prolonged restrictions – which is still the case. We are preparing for this process. We are currently finalizing the preparation of regulations for this form of defence.

10. How will defence deadlines be set?

Students who complete their studies and submit their work online on time may have a designated diploma exam in accordance with the study rules. Otherwise, the dean at the request of the student, opinioned by the supervisor, may extend the deadline for the submission of the thesis up to 6 months.

11. Can I do research in the lab?

Diplomats (6 students in the 1st degree of education and 3rd semester in the 2nd degree of education) can apply to the supervisor who reviews such a request. The requests are considered individually and, with the dean’s knowledge, it is possible to work in the laboratory in accordance with safety rules (masks, gloves).

Students who are not diplomats (e.g. working in a scientific circle) may apply for permission to conduct research with the Vice-Rector for Didactics, after receiving an opinion from an academic supervisor.

12. Can I get out of the dorm?

Every student has the opportunity to check out from the dorm – for this purpose, please contact the administration of student houses by e-mail. It is assumed that a student who wants to be accommodated will be able to enter the segment individually, following safety rules (mask, gloves).

The university does not charge for the dorm, so we recommend that you do not check out, because we expect that there will be a return to the Universities, then there would be a need for re-accommodation.

13. At home, I don’t have the conditions to do e-learning classes – what should I do?

In the case of residents of the Student’s House, it is possible to return to the dorm with the consent of the Vice-Rector for Didactics

14. In the current situation, I do not have how to implement practices – what are the consequences?

The deadlines for the completion of the completion of the traineeship will be extended.

15. The library is closed – how do I access books and other resources?

The library provides full access to the electronic resource database. For textbooks and polish- and English-language magazines. To get full access, you need to activate your Library account.

16. I have books from the SGGW Library at home, should I give them back now?

No, the deadline for putting the books is extended.

17. I want to pick up my diploma – can I do it?

Yes, deans are available to students and graduates. In order to collect your diploma (or to settle another matter) you need to contact the dean by phone or e-mail, make an appointment and follow the security rules to realize the matter in person.

18. I negatively evaluated the leader in the survey – does it matter?

So. SGGW attaches great importance to the level of education. In cases of concern, the Rector and the Dean shall take appropriate action.

19. Will Ursynalia take place?

No, Ursynalia will not take place on the originally scheduled date.

20. Will SGGW Days take place?

SGGW DAYS will not take place on the scheduled date (22-23 May 2020).

FAQ Update – As of March 17, 2020

New election calendar message

1. Can students go back to the dormitories for a while to take some things, including Medicines?

For the sake of the health and safety of the academic community and society as a whole, we ask students not to come to the dormitories. Please stay at home and call a doctor who can issue an e-prescription remotely

2. When will the online classes start?

Some classes are already conducted online. Intensive work is underway in the faculties to launch further classes. Please follow the information in eHMS and check the emails – in this regard, the lecturers will stay in touch with their students.

3. Will students have extended the time to complete their thesis by not accessing the library (not only SGGW, but also other libraries in Warsaw?

If necessary, the student’s request for an extension of the deadline for the submission of the thesis – opinioned by the promoter – will be considered by the dean.

4. What about dorm fees?

We don’t want to charge students for non-residential time in DS. Detailed regulations will be coming soon.

5. Will the classes be done during summer holiday?

At present, such a solution is not considered.

6. What about part-time students?

The situation is unprecedented and the functioning of the University in the near future will be modified e.g. Order of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. We now assume that all classes will be completed.

7. Will the deadlines for submitting books to the library be extended?

Yes.

8. What about college recruitment or will it be on a similar date as usual?

Recruitment is conditioned by the dates of the baccalaureate – in case of changing the dates of the baccalaureate, there may be a need to modify the schedule of the recruitment procedure. Currently, such a scenario is not taken into account.

9. Will defence deadlines be standard (similar to a year ago)?

The diploma examinations should take place in accordance with the rules of procedure. All individual cases will be dealt with by the deans.

10. Are there rides in the university stable?

For the sake of health and safety, rides are cancelled.

General affairs

1. Where did the decision to suspend classes on SGGW come from?

Action has been taken to eliminate the possibility of the virus spreading to members of the SGGW academic community.

2. Why do students have to temporarily leave their student homes?

Among Warsaw universities, only SGGW is in a special situation, because almost all students living in dormitories (four thousand people!) are accommodated on one campus. This situation, according to doctors, increases the risk of coronavirus infection, which would consequently necessitate forced quarantine for 4 000 students.

The decision of the university authorities meets the ever-growing epidemiological threat and we ask that it be accepted with understanding.

3. For what period is the suspension of classes and other activities planned?

At this time, the Rector’s Order is valid until further notice.

4. Will there be election meetings and election-related activities?

Yes.

5. Will the Deans be able to decide for themselves on issues that will not be addressed in the Rector’s Communication?

Yes, if this does not go beyond the dean’s remit.

Students

1. Are extra-curricular, evening and postgraduate classes also cancelled?

Yes. All classes are cancelled.

2. Does the appeal also apply to student internships and other teaching activities outside the SGGW?

Yes/

3. Can classes or internships be held in small groups?

No, any teaching activities requiring close contact with others are cancelled.

4. What about student ID cards, which are valid until the end of March – how to extend them?

ID cards by decision of the MNiSW are automatically extended until 31.05.2020.

5. Will administrative staff be available to students and researchers?

Yes. Students are first asked to contact us by email and phone.

6. What about the submission and defence of thesis?

For thesis, please contact the Dean by e-mail.

7. What about doctorate and habilitation proceedings?

Students should contact their supervisor. In case of habilitation, please contact the chairman of the habilitation committee.

8. Is there any additional information for international students?

In accordance with the Rector’s Order on Preventing the Spread of SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus among the SGGW community, we recommend that foreign students studying in our scholars do not travel to their home countries.

The decision to return home could mean 2,000 quarantine in your home country. If you return to the Polish, another 2,000 quarantines will also be mandatory, which may prevent you from getting a semester pass.

Information for foreign students studying at SGGW

In accordance with the Rector’s ordinance on preventing the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus among the SGGW community, we recommend foreign students studying at the University stay at the dormitory and not to leave for their home countries.

We are afraid that after resuming studies, a quick return to Poland may be difficult.

9. Is the service of foreign students in faculties suspended?

No, but we encourage you to contact us by email and phone first.

10. What about refunds for paid studies?

All paid study classes will be completed in accordance with the agreements concluded.

11. When and how will the classes be homeworked?

Students will be informed by the deans of the faculties about how and when to complete unfulfilled classes.

12. What about session extensions and other expiry dates?

We assume that the academic year will follow the current organization of the academic year.

Academics

1. Do academics work?

Yes, but we encourage you to limit your personal contacts, we recommend you to contact us by phone and e-mail.

2. Will the secretariats of the cathedrals be open?

Yes, but we encourage you to limit your personal contacts, we recommend you to contact us by phone and e-mail.

3. Will there be deans and deans on duty?

4. Have pre-established leave been automatically cancelled as a result of the suspension?

SGGW Buildings

1. Will I get to a faculty or other SGGW unit?

Yes, access to SGGW buildings has not been restricted.

2. Will the SGGW Library and faculty libraries be open? If not, how can I rent/donate books?

No, according to Rector’s Order No 18 of 11 March 2020, libraries will be closed. We recommend the use of electronic resources of the Main Library.

Koronavirus – information and recommendations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education

Below there is a list of frequently asked questions related to the impact of COVID 19 on academic life at SGGW. We are constantly updating the list. We hope that this will dispel your doubts about the SGGW academic life.

Update FAQ + A – as of March 17, 2020

1. Can students return to the dorms just for a while to take some things, including medicines?

If necessary, the student’s application for an extension of the deadline for submitting the diploma thesis – reviewed by the supervisor – will be considered by the Deputy Dean.

4. What about dorms fees?

We do not want to charge students staying in dorms. Detailed regulations will appear soon.

5. Will the classes be done during the holidays?

At present, such a solution is not considered.

6. What about extramural students?

The situation is unprecedented, and the functioning of the University in the near future will be modified, for example, by the Ordination of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. We currently assume that all classes will be completed.

7. Will the deadlines for returning books to the library be extended?

Yes.

8. What about enrollment for studies, will it be on a similar date as usual?

Admissions are dependent on the dates of the Baccalaureate exam – in the event of a change in the dates of the Baccalaureate exam (Polish Matura/Maturity Exam), there may be a need to modify the recruitment procedure schedule. Currently, this scenario is not taken into account.

9. Will thesis defense dates be standard (similar to last year)?

Diploma exams should be held in accordance with the regulations. All individual cases will be considered by the Deans.

10. Do rides take place in the university stable?

For the health and safety drives are canceled.

1. Why SGGW decided to suspend classes?

SGGW took action to eliminate the possibility of the virus spreading among members of the academic community.

2. Why do students have to temporarily leave dormitories?

By the Ministry of Science and Higher Education decision the students cards are automatically extended until May 31, 2020.

1. Чи можуть студенти повернутися до гуртожитків на деякий час, щоб взяти якісь речі, в тому числі ліки?

Заради вашого і академічної спільноти здоров’я та безпеки та всього суспільства ми просимо студентів не відвідувати гуртожитки. Будь ласка, залишайтеся вдома і телефонуйте до лікаря, який може віддалено виписати електронний рецепт.

2. Коли розпочнуться онлайн-заняття?

Деякі заняття вже проводяться в Інтернеті. Ведуться інтенсивні факультети для запуску наступних занять. Будь ласка, дотримуйтесь інформації в eHMS та перевіряйте свої електронні почти – за посередництвом почти викладачі будуть підтримувати зв’язок зі своїми студентами.

Такие меры были приняты для устранения возможности распространения вируса среди членов академического сообщества SGGW.

2. Почему студенты должны временно оставить общежития?

Среди Варшавских университетов только SGGW находится в особой ситуации, поскольку почти все студенты, проживающие в общежитиях (а это четыре тысячи человек!) Находятся на одном кампусе. Такая ситуация, по мнению врачей, увеличивает риск коронавирусной инфекции, как следствие, возможна была бы потребность введения вынужденного карантина для четырех тысяч студентов.

3. На какой период планируется приостановление дидактической деятельности?

Распоряжение ректора действует до аннулирования.

4. Будут ли выборы и связанная с ними деятельность?

Да.

5. Могут деканы принимать решения касающейся проблем не урегулированных в коммуникате ректора?

Да, если это не выходит за пределы компетенции декана.

Студенты

1. Отменяются ли также заочные, вечерние занятия, а также аспирантура?

Да. Все занятия отменены.

Студенческие карточки автоматически продлеваются решением Министерства науки и Высшего образования до 31 мая 2020 года.

5. Будут ли доступны работники администрации?

6. Что с написанием и защитой дипломных работ?

В делах связанных с дипломными работами обращайтесь к декану.

7. А как насчет докторских диссертаций?

Докторантов в первую очередь просим связаться со своими промоторами.

8. Есть ли дополнительная информация для иностранных студентов?

Согласно распоряжению Ректора по поводу предотвращения распостранения коронавируса SARS-CoV-2 среди общественности SGGW рекомендуем заграничным студентом, учащимся в нашем университете, не уезжать в свои родные страны.

Решение о возвращении домой может значить много проблем, например, проблемы с доездом в свою страну, а также проблемы с возвращением в Польшу. В случае возвращения в Польшу необходимо отправиться на карантин, длящийся 2 недели. Каждый из этих факторов может привести к недопуску окончания семестра.

9. Прекращается ли обслуживания иностранных студентов на отделах?

10. А как относительно возмещения за оплаченное обучение?

Все занятия на платных условиях обучения будут осуществляться в соответствии с заключенными договорами.

1. Могут ли студенты вернуться в общежития на некоторое время, чтобы забрать какие-то вещи, в том числе лекарства?

Ради вашего и академического сообщества здоровья и безопасности и всего общества мы просим студентов не посещать общежития. Пожалуйста, оставайтесь дома и звоните к врачу, который может удаленно выписать электронный рецепт.

2. Когда начнутся онлайн-занятие?
